Worming

Routine worming for your dog is extremely important. Many people are alarmed when they discover their dog has worms but all dogs will be affected at some stage during their lifetime, especially puppies. Regular worming treatments are important to ensure your dog stays parasite free.

Worms are classed as endoparasites that live in the gut of your dog, and the most common are roundworms, and tapeworms. Very heavy infestations can cause vomiting and diarrhoea, anaemia and loss of weight and body condition, whilst light infestations may show no outward signs. They are a zoonosis, which means they can affect humans, especially children, but one inexpensive treatment every three months will reduce the risk. Remember a healthy, regularly wormed pet will be very unlikely to pass on a disease.

Please remember that over the counter wormers from pet shops and supermarkets often lack the efficacy of the ones you get from your vet!
